Welcoming today’s students; tomorrow’s business leaders
22. October 2018Behind the scenes at Bavaria’s National Theatre
7. November 2018A warehouse full of robots, working in synchronized perfection; a pristine assembly line with sparkling automobile frames; meeting rooms filled with some of the world’s most talented business professionals, engineers and mechanics… It can only be BMW, the world’s leading manufacturer of premium automobiles and motorcycles, whose headquarters just happens to be a short train ride away from New European College in northern Munich.
Exposing students to the world of business and innovation is a vital part of a quality business education. At New European College, one way we do this is through industrial visits to some of Munich’s most iconic brands and businesses. In October, students were given the opportunity to have a private tour of the BMW Group Plant Munich, home of the BMW 3 Series.
Located adjacent to Munich’s most frequented tourist destination, BMW Welt, the BMW Group Plant tour offered students a glimpse into BMW’s manufacturing process for the sixth-generation BMW 3 Series, their state-of-the-art production technologies and future-oriented sustainability strategies. According to BMW, “Approximately 7,700 employees from over 50 countries work at this site, 850 of whom are trainees. Every day, around 950 automobiles and more than 3,000 engines are manufactured here, the plant being closely integrated into the Group’s global production network.”
The day was no less inspiring as it was educational: Highlights included our knowledgeable and dynamic tour guide, with a PhD and passion for BMW, learning about BMW’s efforts to lead the way with sustainability within the manufacturing industry, and seeing the new resource-friendly paint shop.
