Update from the Chancellor – Falling in love with Taylor Swift

Sascha’s No-Gossip Summary :

  • Phase 1 – Admitting my love of Taylor Swift
  • Phase 2 – Justifying my love of Taylor Swift
  • Phase 3 – Reinforcing my love of Taylor Swift
  • Phase 4 – Free Research for the love of Taylor Swift

Regardless, if you like or dislike the music of Taylor Swift, as someone studying business you cannot ignore her.

For my part, the music does not necessarily rock my boat, yet what she and her management entourage (especially her father) have achieved (she is a neo-billionaire) is impressive.

If you are interested, a good starting point is this article in Vogue Business.

Last week, I finally also fell a bit in love with Taylor Swift (please don’t tell my girlfriend).

It was not her music, not her money, not her looks, it was her endorsement of Kamala Harris. Funnily enough, as I really don’t like Donald Trump, it had nothing to do with the political side, but that she stated the following:

“…, now is great time to do your research on the issues at hand…”

Why?
Because in today’s world many people are becoming parrots that repeat headlines or rumors, but don’t take the time to verify these.

Just think of the rumor that Donald Trump is spreading about people eating cats, dogs and ducks in Springfield, Ohio.

The only good part of this false information is that it created some of the funniest memes recently:

The other part of Taylor Swift’s endorsement that made me fall a bit more in love with her is:

“I have done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make.”
This is the beautiful basic principle of democracy and life – it is your choice and if you don’t do your research you will vote and live like a parrot.

So whatever it is in life, don’t base your decision on rumours or headlines.

For all the students out there, I highly recommend downloading the Espresso App from the Economist, it is for free for students and it will give you a daily update on the world news – with a clear separation between news and analysis, so you can make up your own opinion, just like Taylor Swift did.

On a side note there is an article on Taylor Swift in the Economist in which her business acumen is portrait as rather ice coldly.

For all students at New European College in the Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences programs, please don’t forget that you have free access to the Financial Times. Which has endless articles on the business side of Taylor Swift for your research.

Finally, what made me fall another tiny bit in love with Taylor Swift was how she signed off her endorsement:
“Taylor Swift
Childless Cat Lady”

And if you don’t know what this about, well then do your research. 😎

Wishing you all a good start into the week,
Sascha Liebhardt
